King’s alumni recognised in the King’s Birthday Honours List
In his first Birthday Honours List as Monarch, King Charles III has honoured a variety of King’s College London staff and alumni for their extraordinary contributions and service in their various fields of work and study.
It’s traditional for the Monarch to announce Honours twice annually: once on their official birthday in June and once at New Year.
Alumni and staff have been recognised on the Honours List from across the university for their work. They include Professor Louise Howard, Professor Emerita in Women’s Mental Health for her services to women’s mental health, and Professor Prokar Dasgupta, Chair in Robotic Surgery and Urological Innovation, for services to Surgery and Science.

- Jorge Hernández: I do remember the beautiful and quiet space of the Queen Elizabeth Library at Kensington, where the old (now gone) Atkins Building was. I am a 1996 class!!

- Colette Johnstone-Young: Discovering the awe of anatomy; deep in the basement and high in the attic with books and lectures galore. Excellent!
- Matt Cresswell: Coming out at Liberation society 🌈 upstairs in the little bar above Tutu’s.
- Sujata Duge: The faculty was outstanding, comprising distinguished professionals from prominent law firms and highly knowledgeable academicians who served as our instructors. Throughout my time on campus, I had many enjoyable experiences, and the Strand campus, located centrally, remains an iconic building.

A new publication from King’s researchers describes a new mechanism required for muscle contraction, which could have important implications for understanding the impact of ageing on muscle contraction as well as molecular mechanisms for muscle diseases.
